Just over a year ago my dear uncle was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. He and his family were shocked to the core with this horrific news, especially as he and my aunty had plans to retire and travel together. He underwent intensive treatment, including radiation, chemo therapy and trial chemo therapy. Unfortunately, the treatment only halted the growth of the tumour for a short time. The cancer regrew, reducing his lifestyle to the point of having to have my aunty care for him. For those who know my uncle, he is tall, strong, full of vigour and good health, with a fun, lovable sense of humour, and he does not deserve to have this horrible disease, which is robbing his family of a loving, caring husband and dad. My aunty has struggled to keep a sense of normality in their daily lives, given that he has become increasingly incapacitated. In honour of my uncle, I am raising much needed funding and awareness for brain cancer research in the hope that one day, better treatment options will be available with higher success rates for survival from this horrendous disease. My target is to raise $3,000 or more, and if I reach this target I will shave my hair. All of it. And for those that know me, I take great pride in my hair. But it has to go! So if you want to see me bald (I know I do) please dig deep and give generously. I don't want other families to suffer through what my aunt, uncle and their family, have suffered through. To see those around him distraught and feeling helpless, makes me even more determined to raise the necessary funds to find a cure. If there is one small difference I can make, this is it.
The money raised will go to the Mark Hughes Foundation towards much needed research into this horrible disease. Please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you for your generosity.
